Brown’s Folly Mine

Brown’s Folly is one of the Bath stone mines located near the village of Monkton Farleigh to the east of the city of Bath. What was once part of the larger Monkton Farleigh mine complex was separated in the 1930’s from the area that became part of the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) at Corsham. Whilst much of this area was converted into underground storage deposits, part of the old Quarries to the West were cut off and unused. This is the area known today as Brown’s Folly.

The mine is a reasonable size and easily takes a few hours to explore fully. There are 2 entrances (that I know of), both of which are close to Brown’s Folly Tower. The entrance marked on the map is known as ‘muddy hole’ and requires a short crawl to get through. The other entrance – known as Shakespeare’s entrance – is located to the south of the tower in the woodland area.

Hi, do you happen to have a survey map for Browns Folly mines?

Have emailed to you. Sorry for the late reply!

Hi, can you send me a survey map for Browns Folly mines please

Please could you send me the survey map too. Does that include the pictured Well as I’d like to find my way there?

Any chance you could send me the survey map too?

These photos look amazing. I don’t know what a survey map is, but I would like to see one too😊 Thanks

Hi, I’ve added to the gallery.

Could you please send me the map survey and location for Shakespeare’s entrance? It’s been many years since I went down and have forgotten the location to enter

Hi, I’ve added map to the gallery. Shakespeare’s is further down the hill from Brown’s Folly Tower, around 51.392729, -2.296916. Left-hand side as you walk south down the path.

Is it too late to ask for a high quality survey to be emailed to me? I would appreciate it a lot!

Do u think you could send me the survey map please I would like to explore this

You can copy/download it from the photo gallery.

Hi is there a good quality map of this mine. I bought one years ago from the quarryman’s arms.
Could you email it over if you have a decent version please.
Happy to donate something for your time

The only survey I have/ know of is the one in the photo gallery. Not sure if newer ones have been made since.

Can you still get in the mines ?

Hey man. Is either one of the two entrances you mentioned the one which is now fenced off? With art work all the way down or am I on the wrong entrance to the mine. Thank you!

Doesn’t sound familiar… I will email you!

Would that mine be a good fallout shelter when the inevitable global thermonuclear war starts due to the idiotic actions of the inept USA politician scum who are loyal to their tyrannical elite-class overlords that own the systems of command and control within the USA via their monolithic corporate systems?
